What is Kobido massage?

Kobido massage is an ancient manual technique that Japanese beauties used to keep their faces young and beautiful for a long time. The first mention of this technique dates back to 1472. This treatment did not come to Europe and the United States until the 20th century. The name of this technique literally means – a way to preserve beauty. Indeed, this facial massage technique is one of the least aggressive, yet most effective methods of preserving youth. Those who visited Japan could see for themselves how popular this treatment is among visitors to spas and beauty salons. The incredible smoothness and turgor of Asian women’s skin is not just a genetic factor, systematic care and the help of highly skilled masseuses are undoubtedly behind it.

The deeper meaning of Kobido massage

The treatment is preventive in nature. The beneficial effect of Kobido massage is achieved by relaxing the muscles of the face and neck, as well as activating the regenerative processes in the skin cells. Blood circulation and lymph drainage are intensified, so the process of self-rejuvenation begins in the tissues. This facial massage technique works not only on the superficial layer of the skin, but also on the deeper tissues. It is one of the few techniques in which the activation of collagen production in the tissues takes place without the use of injections or state-of-the-art equipment.

Using only her own hands, the masseuse brings the skin to such a state that it begins to quickly get rid of toxins and dead cells by its own means. In addition to the physiological, this massage also has a psycho-emotional effect. It helps to achieve emotional balance, in other words, it relieves stress and provides a good mood. The statement that beauty is not only a well-groomed appearance, but also a glow from within, takes on a literal meaning when using this facial massage technique.

Purpose and meaning of Kobido massage

While most massages are highly specialized and address one major problem, Kobido is versatile. The treatment is recommended for owners of both oily and dry skin, with age spots and wrinkles. In addition to getting rid of cosmetic defects, this type of facial massage helps with headaches and relieves depression. Mobilizing the body’s natural resources and stimulating circulation, Kobido creates a natural lifting effect and restores the hydration balance of the facial skin.

Be prepared for the masseuse to apply a small amount of oil, which contributes to the smooth movement of her hands and the relaxation of the muscles. The main area of work is the face, neck and décolletage. Acupressure, lymphatic drainage and facelift techniques are used during the massage. For clients accustomed to regular massage, Kobido surprises with a non-standard technique. Light, almost weightless movements are interspersed with drum beats, or fast rhythmic movements.

WHAT IS KOBIDO MASSAGE?

Course of the Kobido facial massage treatment

The sequence of steps during the procedure may vary depending on the experience of the particular masseuse. However, in general, the session roughly follows the following pattern:

  • Kobido begins with a facial cleansing. The masseuse removes makeup from the skin and those microscopic impurities that accumulate on the face during the day. If there is a heavy oily sheen, a gentle scrub with fine granules may be applied. After cleansing, a hot towel is applied to the skin, after which a cleansing lotion is applied.
  • The next step is to moisten the skin and the masseuse proceeds to stimulate the meridians (acupuncture points-life energy qi) of the massage, paying special attention to the intersection points of the meridians. First, the hands move from the neck to the chin, making light patting motions. From the chin, the facial muscles stretch symmetrically in both directions. Then patting again, this time from the center of the cheeks to the ears and back.
  • In the next phase, the masseuse focuses on stretching movements. Grasping the skin from the center of the face, she gently pulls it toward the ears. Then the same movements are repeated in a slightly different variant: the right hand tightens the skin, while the left hand, at this time, stretches the skin folds near the mouth.
  • The next step is patting again, kneading. The fingers move from the center of the cheeks to the ears, and then make movements between the eyebrows. From there, there is an elevation on the forehead: first patting in a motion to the left and right and back again, and then a deep exploration of the skin along the same vector.
