While many of us have certainly heard of Thai massage, no doubt most are completely clueless as to exactly what it entails. We would like to give you a little more insight into the massage itself and point out how to prepare for it. A few important points you should know if you want to opt for this form of body massage for the first time.
What is a Thai massage?
Thai massage is one form of body massage, based on deep action using specific techniques. It is a combination of several elements, including acupressure, that is, applying pressure to the appropriate points on the body, as well as yoga, stretching and reflexology. In Thailand, it is referred to as an ancient classical massage – ,,nuat phaen boran”. There are many forms of this massage, as it has been handed down from generation to generation and still brings with it something new, which means that not everyone practices this traditional form of it.
It is certainly worth pointing out at the outset that it is precisely the traditional edition that is one of the few, in which this massage is performed through clothing, if it is the dry form, or in underwear, if you choose the wet option. So what is the massage procedure like? What actions does the masseur perform in order to be able to speak of a professional performance of Thai massage?
First the feet are washed with a warm towel. Then the legs are massaged from the bottom toward the top, the buttocks, and then the back, neck and hands. After finishing massaging the back part of the body, turn to the back, where the ritual is repeated in the same way. First the legs are massaged from the bottom, toward the top, then the abdomen and shoulders. At the very end, the face is massaged, as well as the head.
The whole process is based on the use of various types of massage techniques, ranging from compression, stroking and thawing the body, as well as the use of passive yoga, acupressure and reflexology. In Thai massage, it can happen that the masseur sits on the patient, bends the body and often in a very , “strange” way, and walks on the back.
How to prepare for a massage?
If up to now we have only known Thai massage from books, and would finally like to test it on ourselves in practice, it is worth knowing how best to prepare for it. First of all, you should plan your meal accordingly. A break before the massage, at least 1 -2 hours long, is fundamental. A light, delicate meal that does not significantly burden the stomach will be ideal. It is also extremely important to drink enough water, about 2- 3 liters. Under no circumstances should you drink alcoholic beverages, or too much coffee. It will work well just before the visit to stretch the body, so that you can negate the appearance of pain after the massage.
What is the first visit to a Thai massage parlor like?
It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with this information so that you can reduce the stress of the unknown, as well as to be sure of what to expect. Of course, each massage parlor may have a different preparation procedure, but the regimen in most places is similar. What is certainly the key to success is to calm down, relax and calm down. All nerves and stress should be left at the door, so that this time can be spent in total recovery.
What is extremely important – is the interview. First, before we even get on the bed, the massage therapist must get to know us and our expectations. The massage therapist must find out if we are ill with anything, if we have any pain, if we are struggling with any health problems. It is also very important to determine what we want the massage to look like. Do we want a gentle form, or do we prefer a more intense and firm one? Are there parts of the body that we want to be left out or to be massaged more carefully for all sorts of reasons? The more such a person learns about us, the better surely such a Thai massage will be.
Appropriate scenery
And finally, an equally important element – the scenery. Although it is known that the key is, of course, the knowledge of the masseur and the way he performs such a massage, the scenery should also be fully taken care of. The room should be cozy and atmospheric. Gentle twilight, candles, Asian music. Creating such an aura gives the opportunity for total tranquility and relaxation, and that’s what it’s all about, right?
The more professional the Thai massage parlor and the more experienced the massage therapists in it, the more certain we are that we will end up with true professionals. Only such will be able to take care of our bodies in depth, offering us the very thing that is the basis of Thai massage. Relief for the body, pleasure for the mind, total tranquility, peace. True harmony of body and soul.
