Massage in the spa – how to dress?

Massage is a basic service we come across in a spa salon. When buying accommodation in a spa hotel, we often have a daily massage just included in the price. It should be selected for our own preferences and body needs. We can choose from many types of relaxing massages, as well as those focusing on problematic parts of the body. After such a treatment, we are sure to feel like a newborn. To enjoy a moment of relaxation, however, it is worth knowing how to prepare for a massage and what outfit to choose for it?

Proper preparation for a massage – a matter of personal hygiene

The first thing to take care of is your own personal hygiene. By taking care of it, we will improve our own comfort and put ourselves in a better mood already. So before going for a massage, a good idea is a warm shower, which will perfectly prepare our body for the treatments. It will become refreshed, the skin will be softened and the muscles will be relaxed. In this way, the body will more easily yield to the hands of the masseur, and all sensations will be more intense. It is also important sometimes not to eat a meal immediately before the massage. It is best to eat a meal at least 1.5 hours before going to the spa. This way we won’t feel any discomfort during the massage.

How to dress for a massage?

When going to a spa for the first massage, it is important to remember not only personal hygiene, but also the right choice of clothing. Much depends, of course, on the type of treatment we choose. If we decide on any of the facial massages, then the clothing is virtually irrelevant. However, if our decision is for an anti-cellulite massage, which of course is based on dealing with problematic parts of the body (thighs, buttocks), or for a Thai, therapeutic or relaxation massage, then the outfit must be well chosen. Above all, the clothing must be comfortable and loose for us. The best choice will be a style that can be easily and effortlessly pulled off. After going to the spa, we are usually asked to remove our clothes. We will remain in our underwear or be given a bathrobe. After the procedure, it is best to put on clothes that are soft and pleasant and, importantly, comfortable. A relaxed body will certainly be better off in a velour tracksuit than in a tight dress.

Hair is best put up in a ponytail or bun. Strands of hair piled on the body can hinder the work of the specialist, as well as lead to contamination with oils or other cosmetics used for massaging. As for the underwear itself, much depends on what kind of massage it will be. Do we want to choose the general one, or one that focuses more on specific areas of the body? Sometimes the massage therapist may ask you to remove your underwear, or you may be given disposable panties. The right underwear is extremely important, especially if we have decided to get a slimming massage, focusing on areas of orange peel. The masseur will then focus on these problem areas, such as the thighs and buttocks. Inappropriate underwear can hinder the masseur’s work and restrict his movements. Sports bras should also be avoided, as should bras that fasten at the front. During slimming or anti-cellulite treatments, the part of the body being massaged must be exposed, while the rest is covered with a towel. The masseur will give us all the instructions.

How to dress for a rehabilitation massage?

The question of clothing is different when it comes to rehabilitation massages. Massage therapists also perform treatments on naked skin and muscles, although it is best to wear a sports outfit consisting of a top and bottom for such a massage. The rehabilitator will perform the treatment in batches, making it necessary to pull off the garments in question, rather than all at once. When it comes to leg massage, the top of the garment does not need to be pulled off at all. For rehabilitation massages, a sports outfit and an easily detachable bra will work well. For this, sneakers or tennis shoes and socks will fit. In such styling we will certainly feel comfortable.

Massage vs. jewelry

When going for a massage, we should take off all jewelry beforehand. It can make the masseur’s work much more difficult, even in a situation where we are only wearing a thin chain. The same is true of earrings. The specialist may hook his hand on the jewelry while performing the treatment. The only exceptions are small earrings fastened with a stick. If the massage is to include parts of the abdomen or face, you should also get rid of any earrings from the navel, nose, eyebrows.

How to prepare for a relaxation massage?

To prepare well for a massage, hygiene and clothing count, of course, but that’s not all. It is also worth preparing for a massage mentally. So before going to the spa, make sure to relax and unwind. You need to forget about your problems and responsibilities and get away from the inner world. You should take a relaxing bath with essential oils, or lie down with your favorite book, as well as listen to relaxing music. A good attitude will make the massage even more enjoyable for us.
